As Karen’s Op.1, the Violin Sonata of 1947 is a remarkably assured work, cast in a Romantic vein with a soulful slow movement and a dance-like finale full of potent rhythmic drive. His father wrote no violin sonata, but Kosemyan complements the famous ‘Sabre Dance’ and ‘Ayesha’s Dance’ with his own transcription of a Song Poem, and Karen Khachaturian (1920-2011) is considered one of the most notable composers of Armenia.

Aram Khachaturian was born on 6 June (24 May in Old Style) 1903 in the city of Tiflis (present-day Tbilisi, Georgia) into an Armenian family. Some sources indicate Kojori, a village near Tiflis (now in Georgia's Gardabani Municipality), as his birthplace. This new recording presents the first recording of the violin sonata by Karen Khachaturian, nephew of the famous composer Aram Khachaturian, and one of the most notable composers of 20th century Armenia.
